Join Fr. Kyle for this monthly Bible study on Paul' s letter to the Romans. This letter is a theological bedrock of the Bible and a book all Christians should be intimately acquainted with.

This is open to the public, so please invite friends and family!.
On Thursday May 18th the Women's small group that meets at Wegmans will begin a new book, “Under His Smile” by Sue Cortese. Please RSVP to Holly Tomlin (firstname.lastname@example.org) for this study by May 4th. Books are $10 and checks or cash are accepted. This group meets every other Thursday evening at 7pm.
Under His Smile- Sue Cortese
The goal of “Under His Smile” is to reveal the beauty of the Gospel, where wicked people are given the free gift of Christ’s perfect record and are received by their heavenly Father with a warm embrace. The answer to our deep insecurity is not self improvement. Christian growth is not measured by our increasing ability to handle life’s problems with competence and power. Instead it is measured by our increasing realization of our need for Jesus. God resists the proud performer, but gives grace to the humble.
This is such a foreign concept to most Christians that it will have to be discussed many times. That is what this study attempts to do: repeat the Gospel to Christians until we begin to grasp the good news.
Join us in the sanctuary each Wednesday evening from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. for Prayer and Praise ( except for the second Wednesday in the month when the time is 6:30-7:30). Praise music plays as we share with one another how the week has gone. We go to the altar to lift up prayer requests to the LORD for family, friends, COTM, the community and the world. You will be amazed at how the Lord makes His presence known during this time. This one hour session will make a tremendous difference in your life and your spiritual growth. Now is the perfect time to join us!

The Men’s Bible Study meets every Saturday at 7:30 a.m. in the church undercroft.
Our initial study topic will be the Sermon on the Mount, a DVD-based series by Dr. Sinclair Ferguson, a Scottish theologian known in Re- formed Christian circles for his teaching, writng, and editorial work.
Ligonier Ministries summarizes the study as follows:
The Sermon on the Mount is perhaps the best- known and most-beloved sermon ever preached. In this sermon, Jesus shows Him- self to be the promised King as He announces the Kingdom of God and demonstrates its pow- er. In this twelve-lecture series, Dr. Ferguson explains how this sermon equips us to live a kingdom life in a fallen world. Dr. Ferguson looks at the sermon’s teachings on such topics as living counterculturally, the deeper implications of the law of God, and how the foundational knowledge of God as Father is the cure for all our anxieties.
Please consider joining the study group, even if you cannot attend every week. Study guides will be provided. Our sessions wrap up no later than 09:00 a.m

What do you see in the mirror? Do you like the reflection? Many of us don't, but perhaps that's because we don't see ourselves the way God does- as His dear children.
The eight lessons in Mirror, Mirror encourage you to dig into Scripture, ask you to make personal application of God's Word to your own life, and help you see yourself as He sees you: His beloved, redeemed daughter.
All women are welcome to join us as we delve into this book study- We will meet every other Thursday on the second floor of Wegmans to have time of fellowship, refreshement, and study. Please share as this event is open to the community! Even if you cannot make the group, we will open an online group on Facebook to discuss the book throughout the week. Whatever your schedule, feel free to pick up a copy of this book to read and discuss with your fellow sisters in Christ!

Please see Holly Tomlin with any questions
Have you ever wondered why we do what we do on Sunday
mornings? Confused about all the standing up, sitting down, kneeling, prayers, etc. Whether you are a cradle Episcopalian, new to the denomination, or never been to an Episcopal service
before, we pray that this will be an opportunity to educate and bring a beauty and life to our worship services.
Beginning March 5th at 7pm, Fr. Kyle will educate us on the Liturgy of the Word, which is the portion of the service where we hear God's Word, pray, and receive His forgiveness and Absolution.
The following week on March 12th, Fr. Kyle will educate us on The Holy Communion where we receive Christ in the Sacrament that we might be equipped to go and live out our daily vocations in the world.
During the following 3 Sunday evenings (March 19th, 25th, and Apr. 6th) , we will look more closely at several historic Eucharist services.
If you are unable to make the sessions, check out the blog page for video recordings of Fr. Kyle's teaching.
Please do not hesitate to contact Fr. Kyle with any questions.
Most public events have some special ceremony to mark their beginning. For Lent this beginning is Ash Wednesday (March 9). Each church member is encouraged to make plans to be in church on that day. The Prayer Book refers to it as a day of “observance by special acts of discipline and self-denial” (p. 17)
At 12 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. we will gather to participate in the unique Ash Wednesday Liturgy, to receive the sacred ashes on our foreheads (if you are so accustomed), and to celebrate Holy Communion. Through confessing our sins and receiving assurance of God’s unconditional forgiveness and pardon through the words of Absolution, the barrier between us and Him will be removed. We can go home knowing that we are indeed forgiven and in fellowship with Him. Please make plans to join us for this holy observance.
All are invited! Please share this event with your friends and family!
Bishop Goff will be with us to celebrate the Eucharist and to do Baptisms, Confirmations, and Receptions. If you have not been baptized or confirmed and would like to do so, please see Fr. Kyle. There will be preparatory classes that will be held before the Bishop's visit. Likewise, if you have not been received into the Episcopal Church, which also means you have not been placed on the official books of Messiah, please consider being received at this time. It allows you to run for Vestry and vote in any official parish elections. If you have any questions, please see Fr. Kyle.
Join us on January 15th for ONE service at 9:30am. Following this service we will come together for a Pot Luck brunch and our Annual Parish meeting. This meeting is a great way for us to hear the business of COTM, what has happened in the past year, and what is ahead in 2017. We will also be electing 2 new vestry members. Please mark your calendars and plan to bring yourselves and a dish to share!
All are welcome to join us as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Our church was deeply saddened by the loss of our brother-in-Christ, Selven Powell on Saturday Oct. 15th. His loss has been felt by all who knew and loved him. Please keep Lois and her family in prayer as they grieve this loss. Our church family will miss Selven more than words can express. We rest assured in knowing that Selven is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We will be celebrating the Funeral Rite for Selven Powell this Saturday, October 23rd at 12pm at COTM. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Undercroft. Please continue to keep Lois and her family in your prayers.
Comfort us, O Lord. You have assured us of Your power over death in Christ Jesus. When you beckoned Lazarus out of the tomb, You proved that Your Word has the power to give eternal life. In our time of mourning, beckon us out of the pit of despair and into hope in Christ Jesus. Shine Your light of eternal life into our darkness so that we may see our way out of this sad time. Amen. (Portals of Prayer).
This event will be rain or shine- we will have tents and space available to keep everyone dry!
Mark your calendars- Church of the Messiah will be working with Thrivent Financial for Christians to offer an afternoon of animal blessings, individual prayers AND free professional family photos. This is an opportunity for us to give back to our community! All are welcome!
Please make sure to have animals on leashes or cages as appropriate.
Starting on Sunday Sept. 18th, we will return to 2 services at 8:30am and 11am. There will be two changes coming: our 8:30am service will be changing to a Traditional Rite I service with hymns and our second service will start 15 mins later at 11am, but will remain a Rite II blended service of hymns/contemporary music. Fr. Kyle will resume his Adult Education teaching at 9:45am on the Gospel according to John. Children's Sunday school will take place after the Collect of the Day is read during the 11am service.
As always, if you have any questions- please do not hesitate to stop by, email, or call Fr. Kyle!
