Lenten Series 2018- The 39 Articles

The Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion
What are the foundational beliefs of Episcopalian (Anglican) Christians? And where are these beliefs to be found? The answer to both questions is The Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, which are in The Historical Documents of the Church section found in the back of The Book of Common Prayer (1979) (pp. 867-876). As one of the Formularies of the Church of England, the Articles lay out in a succinct fashion our confession of faith as Christians worshiping in the Anglican Way. Sadly, though, these Articles have often been neglected in the life of the Church. As those worshiping in the Reformed Catholic faith, it’s important that we get back in touch with these Articles and come to know them deeply. That said, for the five Sundays of Lent (Feb. 18th - March 18th), at 6:30pm, we will be doing an introductory study of the Articles, tackling approximately eight Articles per week. If you have ever had any questions about what Episcopalians believe, or even if you have not, you are encouraged to come out to this enlightening and faith-growing Lenten study.

Beginning Sun, February 18th, Fr. Kyle will be teaching a Lenten Series. It will be every Sunday for five weeks. The supper will start at 5:30 pm and the teaching will begin at 6:30 pm. There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for those who would like to volunteer on providing a SUPPER for one of those evenings.

Ash Wednesday Services

Ash Wednesday
Most public events have some special ceremony to mark their beginning. For Lent this beginning is Ash Wednesday (Feb. 14th). Each church member is encouraged to make plans to be in church on that day. The Prayer Book refers to it as a day of “observance by special acts of discipline and self-denial” (p. 17)

At 12 P.M. and 7:30 P.M. we will gather to participate in the unique Ash Wednesday Liturgy, to receive the sacred ashes on our foreheads (if you are so accustomed), and to celebrate Holy Communion. Through confessing our sins and receiving assurance of God’s unconditional forgiveness and pardon through the words of Absolution, the barrier between us and Him will be removed. We can go home knowing that we are indeed forgiven and in fellowship with Him. Please make plans to join us for this holy observance.

All are invited! Please share this event with your friends and family!

Sharon Bowen's Funeral

Our church was deeply saddened by the loss of our sister-in-Christ, Sharon Bowen. Her loss has been felt by all who knew and loved her. Please keep her family in prayer as they grieve this loss. Our church family will miss Sharon more than words can express. We rest assured in knowing that she is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Comfort us, O Lord. You have assured us of Your power over death in Christ Jesus. When you beckoned Lazarus out of the tomb, You proved that Your Word has the power to give eternal life. In our time of mourning, beckon us out of the pit of despair and into hope in Christ Jesus. Shine Your light of eternal life into our darkness so that we may see our way out of this sad time. Amen. (Portals of Prayer).
———————————————-
Sharon Bowen's funeral will be held this coming Saturday, January 13th, at 12:00pm. Everyone is invited to attend.

The family has requested that all those attending wear something with lavender or royal purple, as this was Sharon's favorite color.
